Directions & Dosage- Splash DE Powder

Refer to the manufacturer's label or sticker on your filter to determine how much DE you should use.

Important: The numbers on the label are under the assumption that the DE Grids are "new" or have been manually cleaned. We recommend manually cleaning the DE Grids at least once per season to ensure longevity.

During a normal backwash only 80% of the DE is actually removed, meaning you would only add 80% off the weight listed on the label.

  • Step One: Determine the amount of DE Powder required for your filter. This product comes in 4 x 6lb bags.
  • Step Two: Ensure that your filter is in filter mode, and slowly add the appropriate amount of DE into your skimmers. Do not run your DE Filter without powder as it can damage the grids.
  • Step Three: After a couple of minutes, you your grids should be fully coated & you're good to go. Keep an eye on the filter pressure & backwash once you see a difference of around 8-10 PSI. Keep an eye out for dust or DE shooting back into the pool, this can be a sign of torn DE grids.

Other Info: Initially, you might notice shorter filtration cycles when cleaning unfiltered water or after heavy pool usage. This usually means the filter aid is working effectively. Clean the filter as needed to maintain clean, clear swimming pool water.

How much DE do I use?

This is a 2-step answer. The first step is determining your filters' DE capacity, which can be found on the filters' label. The second step depends on the physical DE Grids. If the grids are brand new, or hvae been manually hosed down and cleaned, then you would want to use the full amount instructed on your filters' label. If you are adding DE after a backwash, then you would only want to use around 80% of that number- because a typical backwash on a DE filter will only actually remove 80% of the DE. For example, if your filter calls for 6 lbs of DE, then you would want to add 4 lbs after a routine backwash.
